To Achebe

Tell me it’s not true, say it isn’t you

From childhood I watched

As age in its tender pace

Began to contour your face

Still I swore I would get to meet you

If only I wrote and wrote faster

My wish would come true!

But beyond day dreams conjured,

Life happened…

And as all things that come, they go

But even from death’s embers I know,

Your legacy shall eternally glow

And though now you tread a dead man’s path,

Things do not fall apart

Your words will always traverse my heart

As you remain for now and always;

A man of the people

Poetry: Death Shall Equalize Us All

by Michael Udenyi

There are as many offenders as are the laws
One for the rich one for the poor
The law is an ass that’s been messed by flaws,
But death shall equalize us all.

When their cup is full to overflow
And their evils unguarded go
They live to die and in resurrection overgrow,
But death shall remedy all their woe.

When two play one must loose
Life or death each one must choose
All must die all must cruise,
But death and life in love must fuse.

Let the criminal that decree against crime
Die painfully, yes die for a long time
The good die young, yes in their prime
But time cannot heal, no not in time.

Title: Th’ Apparition

Author: John Donne

About: a widowed woman, perhaps not sadly so. A spiteful ghost, perhaps rightly so. A clueless lover, perhaps wisely so.

Thoughts: the master of metaphysical poetry will send chills up your spine with this haunting piece. The pacing of the words is… let’s just say, to die for. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself supporting the ghost.
